THE LEAVES OF AUTUMN
"I drove up to a farm in Lanark County, Ontario, at night. Arrived in the dark. The baby woke us up so I took her out into the living room and then she fell asleep again. But then I was awake. So I just started writing down what I was seeing outside."

***
A happy autumnal soundtrack worthy of being canonized in a Canadian anthology of poetry. Vopnfjord captures all the wonderment of the season, “First light creeps in slowly / You wonder what might be revealed.” His talent for words is obvious and fresh in verse: “It’s a big bouquet by the full light of day / It’s a flare at sundown / With crimson blush and a burgundy burst / When the breeze blows the leaves around.” Simple beauty woven into a memorable track that pays homage to Canadian cottage country. A testament to his Icelandic roots and heritage, the song boasts sheer appreciation for the grace and beauty of nature.

Lyrics

THE LEAVES OF AUTUMN
The stars here burn so brightly
Billions of light years away
See the ghosts of stars long gone
Feel the depths of the milky way

First light creeps in slowly
You wonder what might be revealed
As a new scene opens up
That nights curtain had concealed

And the first taste of fall colours
Melts like honey to a tongue
And the golden light is morning light
Shining on the leaves of autumn

All the leaves of autumn
All the leaves of fall

Painters capture what they can
But they can’t compete
With the gentle hand of natures command
Of colours we can barely speak

It’s a big bouquet by the full light of day
It’s a flare at sundown
With crimson blush and a burgundy burst
When the breeze blows the leaves around

And the season turns when the red leaves burn
And the maple trees retire
And the birch bark knows when cold wind blows
The snow is soon to fly, fly

All the leaves of autumn
All the leaves of fall
